Facebook users users (including some cute friends) are warning each other, posting on their walls that the world’s biggest social network will soon charging some bucks for a membership to its users due to the upcoming profile changes. Since this hoax went viral and spread like fire in forest so quickly, those scammers are trying now again, with fake prices this time.
Here is one of the messages which I came across on Facebook:
FACEBOOK JUST RELEASED THEIR PRICE GRID FOR MEMBERSHIP. $9.99 PER MONTH FOR GOLD MEMBER SERVICES, $6.99 PER MONTH FOR SILVER MEMBER SERVICES $3.99 PER MONTH FOR BRONZE MEMBER SERVICES, FREE IF YOU COPY AND PASTE THIS MESSAGE BEFORE MIDNIGHT TONIGHT. WHEN YOU SIGN ON TOMORROW MORNING YOU WILL BE PROMPTED FOR PAYMENT INFO… IT IS OFFICIAL IT WAS EVEN ON THE NEWS. FACEBOOK WILL START CHARGING DUE TO THE NEW PROFILE CHANGES. IF YOU COPY THIS ON YOUR WALL YOUR ICON WILL TURN BLUE AND FACEBOOK WILL BE FREE FOR YOU. PLEASE PASS THIS MESSAGE ON IFNOT YOUR ACCOUNT WILL BE DELETED IF YOU DO NOT PAY.
The Facebook company has released a statement when they realised the hoax had gine viral so badly. They say “A rumor on the internet caught our attention,” a Facebook spokesperson said in a statement. “We have no plans to charge for Facebook. It’s free and always will be.”
Facebook already making a lot of money from the ads viewed and clicked by its 800 million active users. In fact, the social networking giant is expected to make a whopping $4.27 billion in revenue this year, 89 percent of which will come from advertising only.
So friends do not believe everything you read on the Internet. nd also do not blindly copy/paste things just because your another friend posted it in his/her wall/status tells you to do so.
SO friends, just stay calm and cool. Tell your friends that Facebook will be FREE always.
